Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande Movie Review

Ratings:3/5 Reviewer:Taran Adarsh Site:BollywoodHungama
SAHI DHANDHE GALAT BANDE highlights the plight of land owners who are told to sacrifice their land in the name of development. The movie not only highlights the issue, but also brings to light the nexus between politicians and industrialists. The story depicts the frantic efforts of land owners on one hand and the exploitation and manipulation by industrialists on the other, who use their clout and finances to acquire the land. On the whole, SAHI DHANDHE GALAT BANDE is what I would call a topical, socially responsible, thought-provoking cinema. A film that has scope for discussions and debates. It addresses, quite successfully at that, an existing critical issue that the country faces -- the effect of dislodgment of people. A decent watch!

Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande is a topical film, this one's an interesting directorial debut by actor Parvin Dabas who captures on screen the recent farmer's agitation in places like Nandigram, Singur, Bhatta Parsaul and several other rural belts which are being grabbed by industrialists and commercial land developers. Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande does have some rough edges and tends to meander a bit. Too many fringe characters and sub-plots tend to divert attention from the main issue. Nevertheless, there is an earnestness of intent and loads of meaningful content which makes for interesting viewing. The high point of the film are its performancesA serious and sensible debut film by director Parvin Dabas, Sahi Dhande Galat Bande is offbeat and fresh

SAHI DHANDHE GALAT BANDE begins promisingly with a prologue on land acquisition, best manifested in the Singur-Tata controversy, actor Parvin Dabas' first shot at writing-direction turns the serious issue into a high school joke within minutes. At best,SAHI DHANDHE GALAT BANDE is a small-minded attempt at tackling an issue that either the director has read only sparingly or has not understood with all its complexitiesParvin's handling of a potentially relevant subject-matter gives away his inexperience, particularly his immaturity in writing. This is one of those films in which the themes resonate perfectly but are executed with the flawed flair of a child. There are moments here in which you simply can't repress a grin -- so embarrassingly infantile are they.

The film caters to a niche audience. In spite of being packed with brilliant performances and a powerful story, it needs a tad bit more oomph to create the right effect. 'Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande' is not a movie for the masses.Parvin Dabas' directorial debut tells a powerful story, which is both relevant to recent times and is light at heart too. The screenplay has a slow start but picks up pace eventually. 'Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande' keeps the story simple but fails to create an impact. There is a very clear message in the film but it is not powerful enough. On the whole, the movie is not a box office spinner and may not be able to create an impact. However, it will make a good DVD watch.

The budget is low, so technical finesse isn’t exactly the order of the day, while the tempo falls slightly in the second half. But at a little over two hours, there’s rarely a dull moment in Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande. Keeping up the tradition of small-budget films that impress with good stories over the last couple of years, Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande is a film that can be enjoyed without the baggage of exceedingly high expectations. It’s a bit like a pocket dynamite - small, but effective. Give it a shot.

What’s Good: Pravin Dabas’ performance; some comedy scenes. What’s Bad: The scattered screenplay; the disappointing climax; the absence of hit music; the recurring dips in the drama; the slow pace.Verdict: Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande is an ordinary fare.Watch or Not?: Watch it because it is an honest attempt.

‘In order to change the system, be the part of the system,’ is what ‘Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande’ portrays very intelligently. The film about the fight between progress and dislocation, is simple in its narration, but is definitely not for the masses. The brilliant concept, intelligent direction and soothing music are the high points. Overtly dragged screenplay, non-impressive dialogues and a non-crisp editing are the weak points. On the whole, ‘Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande’ is a must watch film, but won’t lure the masses for its intelligent quotien
