Friends With Benefits Movie Review

Ratings:2/5 Reviewer:Rajeev Masand Site:IBNLive
Despite its raunchy set-up, Friends With Benefits is a familiar, sickeningly gooey date-movie that never rises above its wobbly script. Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis look a million bucks (both with and without their clothes on!), and they strike up a warn chemistry. But Timberlake has a cocky presence that betrays that leading man charisma needed to carry the film.In the end, it’s strictly average entertainment if you have nothing better to do. I’m going with two out of five for Friends With Benefits. Watch it if you must.

Well,Friends with Benefits boosts of usual Hollywood jazz of no commitment and no I-miss-you moves. But getting physical has never been that easy, has it? Not at least for Hollywood romcoms.Remember Ashton Kutcher's No Strings Attached? So what's different with this one? It's the chemistry between Timberlake and Kunis which is smooth, perfect, crackling. You actually end up giving them the benefit of doubt... despite the romcom's cliches!

You have seen this film before, in various versions of that one question: 'Can a boy and a girl ever be friends?'. More recently, you saw it in a movie with a virtually similar plot and an exact same tagline -- 'No Strings Attached', tagged 'Friendship has its benefits'.Unfortunately for 'Friends with Benefits', for whatever it was worth, that film starring Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher knew far more to do with the basic plot of two people deciding to keep their relationship purely about sex than just leaving it at purely about sex.

plot of this sappy romantic comedy is similar to that of No Strings Attached, released earlier this year.A palpable sense of déjà vu sets in long before the ‘friends’ sashay towards an all’s-well-that-concludes- well resolution. On a more positive note, some of the banter between the commitment-phobic pair is fitfully amusing. In supporting roles, Patricia Clark (the sexually liberated mom), Woody Harrelson (a flamboyantly gay sports editor) and Richard Jenkins (the Alzheimer’s-afflicted dad) are in fine fettle. Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake are lusterless, though.

What’s Good: The intermittent comedy, Mila Kunis’ performance, the entertaining dialogues. What’s Bad: Justin Timberlake’s reason for commitment phobia is lame; the fall-out between the two friends in the climax seems forced.Verdict: Friends With Benefits will not really reap any benefits at the Indian box-offic
